Mommy-to-be/Mommy and Me Offers Unique Help for New Mothers
There’s plenty of information and help for first-time mothers on health, nutrition and physical practicalities for themselves and their newborns. But there’s surprisingly little help that addresses the emotional side of being a new mother.
Becoming a parent evokes strong feelings. Parenthood changes all our relationships: to the world, to our own parents, to our partners and, most importantly, to ourselves. No doubt about it, it transforms our lives. Join Dr Annie Abram and a small group of other expectant-and-then-new mothers to begin building a strong emotional foundation for your baby and the whole family.
You’ll learn how to:
- Recognize which emotions are tied to physical and hormonal changes and which
may be connected to other causes.
Build a beautiful relationship with your baby.
Establish an effective support network – grandparents, friends, family members – without giving up your parental choices and while maintaining healthy boundaries. - Evolve with your spouse or partner into the joint parental role – while keeping your couple relationship solid.
- Choose qualified and compatible outside caregivers – pediatricians, nurses,
nannies. - Keep overall family dynamics on a happy footing.
Create a safe emotional environment for your baby.
Understand how your role as a mother can contribute to your own emotional
growth. - Negotiate the emotional and day-to-day practicalities of the end of pregnancy and the beginning
of motherhood.
